Salem Sunrise Rotary Club Programs
The Salem Sunrise Rotary Club meets each Wednesday at the Center 50+ building located at 2615 Portland Road, NE (the cross street is Highland), in Salem. We are a group of 25-30 men and women ranging from our mid 20's to our mid 80's. We represent a wide range of educational and occupational backgrounds. Our common interest is our community and "service above self."
We gather about 6:45a.m. - 7:00a.m for a nice breakfast and some visiting. Out meeting begins at 7:00a.m and we conduct some Rotary business until 7:25a.m. Shortly after our program presentation begins. We allow 30 minutes for the presentation followed by discussion and questions from the audience. About 7:55a.m. we conclude with some brief Rotary business and adjourn at 8:00a.m. so folks can get to work.
In addition to interesting programs, we have occasional fundraisers for support of our local and international projects. In 2015-2016 we initiated a Highland Elementary School beautification project, we expanded the community gardent at Whtitam Community Gardens in Keizer, we bought gear and tools for students in the Community Technical Education Center (CTEC) in Salem, and worked with the Salem Art Association and its' Young Artist Showcase (YAS) exhibits.
Each year we sponsor a foreign student in one of our local high schools as well as sponsor a local Salem student for a year of school abroad.
We also participate in the local Rotary program to provide a dictionary for every 4th grader in the Salem-Keizer school district, even those in private schools.
